Blanket Care Directions

Quilt Care Instructions

In all of our quilts, all fabrics have been washed before being quilted to help prevent shrinking and color bleeding.

To wash a quilt, use cold water and a mild detergent (without any brighteners or bleach).  Run the machine on a short, gentle cycle.  To keep the colors bright, add half a cup of vinegar to the wash cycle.  If you are concerned about color bleeding, we recommend adding a Shout Color Catcher to the load (like a dryer sheet, available in many stores).  The Color Catchers will literally catch dye that has bled into the wash water.

Machine Drying Instructions: Most imporantly, use LOW HEAT.  You will want to use low to no hear when drying it.  To be safe, don't dry it all the way.  Tumble dry it on low until it is damp, then let it air dry.

Air drying quilts can be tricky because they're so heavy when they're wet!  To prevent those threads from popping, support the weight of the quilt by drying it flat.  Spread out a clean sheet and lay the quilt flat on top of the sheet to dry.  If you have a clothesline with parallel lines, you can drape it over multiple lines taking care to support the heavy wet fabric.  Do not wring, pull or stretch when wet.

All quilts can be ironed as needed.

Crochet Care Instructions

Be mindful of the fiber content of the item you are washing.  Wool and other animal fibers will felt (shrink) if exposed to heat, water, and friction.  Blankets made by Generations Fiber Arts are 100% acrylic.  Hats, scarves, and shawls may be animal fibers.

Wool and other fibers should be spot cleaned.  If heavily soiled, they should be gently hand washed in lukewarm water with a wool-safe detergent.  You can find many resources online for washing wool garments.

Our blankets can be machine washed and dried - in fact that will make them softer!  Some yarns will become more fuzzy when washed, an effect called haloing.  This makes them even warmer, and does not affect the durability of the blanket.

Machine washing and drying on a gentle cycle using a detergent without bleach or brighteners.  Do not use fabric softener.
